Our history
Access Intensive Therapy was founded by Dr Sarah Butler, building on her doctoral research, which explored clients' experiences of intensive therapy for post-traumatic stress. Through her research, Dr Butler discovered that intensive therapy was as effective as weekly sessions, while also being cost-effective, time-efficient, and offering clients the benefits of a structured and predictable process.
In 2023, the Mitland Plan was developed to provide clients with a structured and coherent intensive therapy package that includes all the components necessary for the best possible experience and outcomes. These components include resources for self-directed learning to prepare for therapy, access to specialist therapists, evidence-based treatments, and follow-up support. The Mitland Plan has since attracted interest from therapists in private practice, charities seeking innovative and cost-effective ways to support their beneficiaries, and researchers looking for a standardised treatment approach for their studies.
